Another good day!
Front squats were enjoyable as per usual. 140 was easy.
I was happy with the weighted CTB, 35 was easy. I went up to 40 pounds and pulled myself high enough but my chest didn't make contact with the bar, so NO REP. Next time.
Sets of 10 CTB were easy and fast. On the fifth set I had to come off the bar on the 8th rep because I could feel my hands getting ready to tear.
I was really happy with my performance on the AMRAP, my breathing felt excellent throughout the entire workout. I tried to keep transitions fast and burpees were steady. I had about 40 seconds left at the end so I was able to run back to the rope and get in one more climb right at the buzzer. This was a nice boost of confidence since my Saturday AMRAPS haven't gone very well the past two weeks.
400m repeats felt great.
On a personal note, tonight I went with my grandparents and parents to see the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. It was just unreal. Wynton Marsalis has always been one of my favorite trumpet players so it was really cool to see him perform live. I really enjoyed this concert because their tunes were different than other big band charts I've heard. They played a piece written by the alto sax player, Ted Nash, that was inspired by Nelson Mandela's inauguration speech. At certain points during the song, one of the trombone players would read actual quotes from the speech. It was very moving and unique.
The rhythm section was just sick. Carlos Henriquez on bass, Ali Jackson on drums and Dan Nimmer on piano. Incredible. The communication between Ali and Dan was amazing, especially during Dan's solos. They also played a tune written by Carlos called 2,3's Adventure in which the clave starts in 2/3 at the beginning but switches to 3/2 by the end. They also did a killer arrangement of Baa, Baa, Black Sheep, no joke.
Attending this concert really made me miss playing in a big band. I played in big band from Freshman year in high school through Senior year in college and it was a blast. I love those huge horn arrangements and the big sound. Plus, playing in a band with all my friends was the best. Jazz is the coolest.
